My husband and I got into a discussion about the aesthetics of past decades. We disagreed about whether we liked the 60s and 70s, but I lacked the vocabulary to describe the visuals I actually liked from those times: botanical illustrations, natural aspects of textiles and decor, gentle, earthy embellishments to product packaging, and so on.
This hardly a Google search made, so I stumbled around the internet looking for evidence of this ecological style half-remembered from childhood at my grandmothers’ homes, and eventually I fell down a rabbit hole of vintage children’s book illustrations. It wasn’t what I was looking for but it was charming all the same.
Do you ever find yourself fascinated by something totally mundane?
It was a rainy, dreary day, and I was feeling down. Then I noticed how the oily colors shifted when the speed of the water changed. It seems like a silly thing to have lifted my mood, but after watching this little spot for a while, I walked away feeling better.

The statistics were neat, but when I talked about it with my husband later, it turned out we were both most amused by tapping on the little figures and seeing how often they had sex. We’re so mature.
Sometimes the algorithm suggests nonsense. Sometimes the algorithm hits so hard I see stars. This was one of the latter.
